St. Croix Casino Danbury is a mid-sized casino and hotel run by the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin, on State Road 35/77 in Danbury, near the Minnesota border and St. Croix State Park. It is one of three St. Croix casinos, alongside Turtle Lake and Hertel. It rates 3.9 from around 2,600 Google reviewers.

Its market is a mix of north-west Wisconsin locals, Twin Cities weekenders and summer cabin traffic. It is not a big resort, but for this corner of the state it offers a fuller floor than you might expect.

What's on the floor

The casino describes "over 500 gaming options", most of which are slot machines. Directories have long listed it at roughly 500 slots and around ten tables.

Live table games include blackjack, craps and roulette, with a newly opened e-roulette game as well. Table hours are shorter than the casino's:

  • Blackjack: Sunday to Thursday 9am to midnight; Friday and Saturday 9am to 2am.
  • Craps: Thursday to Saturday 4pm to midnight; Sunday 2pm to midnight — "if staffing permits", according to the casino.

There is a sportsbook in the form of self-service betting kiosks.

What it does not have: a poker room or regular bingo. Bingo shows up only as an occasional special event.

The hotel

The attached hotel has 47 rooms and suites, with two pools and a hot tub. It is small, so rooms can go quickly on summer and holiday weekends. Tent campers can also look at the nearby Eagles Landing Campground mentioned on the casino's site.

Dining

  • East Winds Dining Room serves steaks, seafood, breakfast and sandwiches, with a Sunday brunch buffet.
  • North Winds Deli covers quicker meals.

Tips before you go

The casino's own site lists the age limit as 21+. Be aware that this has changed over time: in 2015 St. Croix lowered its gambling age to 18 at all three of its casinos, and some directories still say 18. Go by the casino's current listing — 21 — and call (800) 238-8946 if it affects your trip.

Hours are 7am to 3am daily, according to both the casino and Google. Table games keep the shorter hours above, and craps depends on staffing, so check before driving up for a specific game.

Danbury is remote. The nearest larger towns are Siren and Webster to the south, and the Twin Cities are around two hours away.

Nearby alternatives

The sister property St. Croix Casino Hertel near Webster is a smaller St. Croix site to the south. St. Croix Casino Turtle Lake is the group's largest property. Heading east, Sevenwinds Casino, Lodge & Conference Center near Hayward has a 75-room lodge.
